In case you didn’t know…

On December 29th, 2018, Jon Jones graced the Octagon in his comeback match against “The Mauler” Alexander Gustafsson. UFC and fight fans around the world eagerly looked on as Jones was making a return to the sport after a 15-month suspension from the promotion. The suspension was a result of a failed drug test, that dated back to his UFC 214 mega-clash against arch-rival, Daniel Cormier.

Following being rendered as a ’no contest’ bout post-UFC 214, Cormier was awarded the light heavyweight belt and subsequently defended it against a formidable opponent in Volkan Oezdemir. The UFC then quickly put together a highly-anticipated heavyweight clash between then-heavyweight champion, Stipe Miocic and Daniel Cormier. Sure enough, Cormier shocked the world by knocking Stipe out in the very first round of the fight, to become a double-division UFC champion.

Before his return to the cage after a long hiatus, Jones tested positive, once again, for a picogram amount of oral Turinabol, just a week before his monumental comeback against Alexander Gustafsson at UFC 232. The Nevada State Athletic Commission was quick in its decision to deny Jones of his license to fight within the state, forcing the UFC to push the event to The Forum, in Inglewood, California, in just under a week’s notice. On the night of UFC 232, however, Jones dominated the proceedings of the fight eventually bringing his very own, light heavyweight belt, back home.

The heart of the matter

In a recent interview with Express Sport, UFC ring announcer and veteran of the sport, Bruce Buffer, was seen being candid about his take on Jones-Cormier 3. He said:

What’s next?

Although a handful of MMA experts and philosophers feel that there is hardly going to be a different outcome from the trilogy between Jon Jones and Daniel Cormier, bloodthirsty fans sure feel otherwise.

Do you think a trilogy between Jones and Cormier is a definite possibility? If so, will it be at light heavyweight or heavyweight?
