UFC 189 main event: Mendes vs. McGregor odds and pick
These fighters got together back in 2013 in what was supposed to be an easy win for MacDonald, but Lawler surprised everyone by winning a split decision and costing MacDonald a title shot.
MacDonald (18-2) comes into this fight with three wins in a row, most recently a third-round KO over always-tough Tarec Saffiedine.
Lawler (25-10) won the welterweight title in a split decision over Johny Hendricks in December and has reinvented himself in his second run in the UFC. Starting with a KO win over Josh Koscheck in February 2013, Lawler has not looked back, and at 33, he’s in the best form of his career. Sometimes a fighter hits his best stride late in his career and that seems to be the case with the champ.
The Linemakers’ lean: I’m not a big fan of laying favorites after the number has moved against us, but MacDonlad, 25, is the future of the welterweight division and is primed for a breakout performance. Take Rory MacDonald to beat Robbie Lawler and become the welterweight champion, maybe via KO late in the fight.
