Sholler also addressed the issue of whether Diaz’s UFC 183 main event with Anderson Silva is still on as scheduled.
“We had staff that saw him yesterday in the airport and he elected to not get on the flight,” Sholler said. “His bags did arrive. Again, I can’t speak to why Nick decided not to get on the flight, but we’re moving on as if the fight is happening Saturday. We’re very confident he’s going to be here today.
“We’re moving forward,” Sholler added. “The fight is happening. We feel pretty confident he’s going to get here today.”
The UFC hasn’t communicated with Diaz directly; instead, it has been talking to his manager, Lloyd Pierson, and other members of his team. Sholler said that Diaz’s team has told the company the former Strikeforce welterweight champion would get on a flight to Las Vegas at either 2 p.m. or 3 p.m. PT.
Sporting News reached out to Sholler to see if Diaz boarded a flight at one of those times, but he had not responded by the time this article was published.
UPDATE: White posted a picture on Twitter of Diaz arriving in Las Vegas.
