Now the question arises whether the UEFA has done enough to stop racism other than handing out fines and bans. It seems UEFA is taking things a bit too lightly, something which we don’t expect from the association.

Are you kidding me, UEFA? Croatia is fined just 25000 euros while Nicholas Bentner is heavily fined with a mega sum of 100000 euros just for unveiling his underpants brand “paddy power”. This is unfair and completely insane. Fans who threw flares and smoke bombs are not fined heavily. UEFA are behaving like babies and not doing their job properly.

Once again they’ve failed to bring top class referees for the tournament, instead there are incompetent referees who make glaring mistakes which is a huge blow for the image of football. Take a look at the match England vs Croatia match. Marko Davic’s clear goal was disallowed by the referee in-spite of a fifth official keeping a clear view of the goal. Then what is the point of having a fifth official in the first place? We should all raise our voices against this as such type of errors are not supposed to happen in professional football matches in the 21st century. Don’t you think so? To err is human, but there is always a limit. The UEFA has indeed crossed the boundaries by not responding to unfair play. It was a decisive match that could have sent Croatia to the quarter-finals.

More over, the security level is not up to the mark. It’s very liberal with no proper bag checking or screening while one enters the stadium. That’s why fans carry flares and smoke-bombs. Take a look at the middle eastern countries. Even in Qatar, the security system is top notch as there is proper screening/baggage checking, and even police dogs are arranged to prevent any danger. It’s time for the UEFA to step up and learn something from a small country like Qatar.

Coming to a deeper problem, most leagues and Fifa tournament group stages are conducted with preference to the goal difference method when two teams have same points but UEFA is an exception as Russia were knocked out of the Euro 2012 inspite of having a +2 goal difference while Greece had +0. But the UEFA follows the head-to-head system and awarded Greece the second place position in group A simply because Greece had defeated Russia although they have four points each. It’s time for the UEFA to take things more seriously and behave in a more mature way and take heed of the above concerns.

Let’s sit back, relax, and hope the rest of tournament continues without any errors, in a peaceful environment, with passion for football being the only thing that gets us going.
